Terms of Use

Last updated: 30 October 2026
Lostalgia is a free map where people post things they found and things they lost, so lost items can find their way home. These terms are an agreement between you and Sugito Haba (ABN 38 166 511 037) ("we"). By using Lostalgia you agree to them.

Your account

You can browse the map without an account. To post, send an "Is this yours?" report, send thanks or send or receive tips, you sign in with your Google account (more sign-in options may be added).
Keep your sign-in secure. You are responsible for what is posted from your account. You can delete your account at any time from My activity.

What you may post

Post only real lost or found items, with your own photos, and only where the item really was.
Do not post: anything illegal; offensive, hateful or sexual content; advertising or spam; scams or false claims to an item; or personal information such as faces, ID or card numbers, number plates, addresses or phone numbers.
Lostalgia does not let users contact each other directly. Posts with a phone number, email address or link in the title, description or place note are refused, and those in "Is this yours?" notes are hidden automatically.
Do not use Lostalgia to collect items that are not yours. "I picked it up" is limited to 2 items from the map in any 7 days.

Your content

You keep ownership of what you post. You give us permission to store it, show it on the map and in the app, share it through the Lostalgia API (see "Lostalgia API" below), and process it as needed to run Lostalgia, until it is deleted.
Posts stay on the map for 7 days. You can edit or delete a post for 7 days after posting; after that it cannot be changed. Photos are shown for 7 days and deleted from our servers after 10 days.

Picking up items

Lostalgia only connects people. We never hold items and we cannot check who owns what. Meet in public places, prefer handing items to station staff, shops or police, and use your own judgement.
Follow the law where you are, including any rules about handing found property to the police.

Tips

Tips are not available yet. This section applies once they are.
After picking up an item, the owner may send the finder a tip as an optional thank-you. Tips are never a condition for returning an item. Asking for or demanding a tip or a reward is not allowed, and we may suspend or delete accounts that do it.
Tips are paid through Stripe Connect, a service of Stripe. To receive tips, a finder opens their own Stripe account, agrees to Stripe's terms and is verified by Stripe. Payments are made between the payer and the finder's Stripe account: Lostalgia does not hold the money, is not a party to the payment and takes no fee.
Tip amounts are set in US dollars and paid in the payer's currency at the day's exchange rate, so the amount changes with exchange rates. Stripe's card fee is taken out of each tip.
A Lostalgia account can send tips from 3 days after it was created, up to 4 tips in any 7 days and one tip per item picked up.
Refunds and chargebacks are handled by Stripe and the payer's bank; Lostalgia does not refund tips. If a payer's bank reverses a tip, the tip and Stripe's dispute fee come out of the finder's Stripe balance.
Statements of tips, fees and payouts come from Stripe. Each finder is responsible for any tax on the tips they receive.
A finder can stop receiving tips by closing their Stripe account or disconnecting it from Lostalgia in their Stripe Dashboard.

Lostalgia API

Lostalgia offers a read-only API so that other apps and websites can help return lost items too. It gives the posts that are on the map, as anyone sees them there: title, description, category and what the item is, photos (for 7 days after posting, and not while they are hidden after a report), the location (rounded to about 100 m for items left where they were found; otherwise the spot or area shown on the map), the place note, whether a found item was handed in, the dates, and a link to the post. It never gives names, email addresses or account IDs, "Is this yours?" reports, thank-yous, tips, or posts that are no longer on the map.
Anyone with a Lostalgia account can make one API key. The key is personal: keep it secret, do not share it, and you are responsible for how it is used.
Use the API only to help people find and return lost items, for example to show items in an app, on a website or in alerts. Do not use it to contact, identify, track or profile people; do not combine it with other data to work out who posted something; do not sell or redistribute the data in bulk; do not send spam; and do not suggest that Lostalgia endorses your service.
Show each item with a link to it on Lostalgia (the url field) and the words "Data from Lostalgia". Keep copies of API data for no more than 24 hours, and stop showing an item within 24 hours after the API stops returning it (because it was picked up, expired, edited, hidden or deleted). Show photos only from the photo links the API gives, without saving them.
The free plan allows 100 requests a day per key, with at least 1 second between requests. Paid plans may be offered later. We may change these limits, and suspend or revoke keys used against these terms, without notice.
Each API version is supported until the date shown at lostalgia.app/api/docs. We may change or stop the API. It is provided as it is, with no promise that it is always available or that its data is accurate.
If your service collects personal information from its own users, you are responsible for your own privacy policy and for following the privacy laws that apply to you.

Reports and removal

Anyone can report a post. Posts reported by several people are taken off the map until we review them. We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these terms, without notice.
To deal with misuse, our admins may look at any post, "Is this yours?" report and report about a post, including who sent it.

The service

Lostalgia is provided as it is, free of charge. We do our best to keep it running and accurate, but we do not promise that it is always available or that any item will be returned.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss or damage arising from items, meetings or arrangements between users, or from payments made through Stripe. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that cannot be excluded.
We may change these terms. If the changes are important we will tell you in the app before they apply.
